Metrolinx FIFA World Cup 2026™ safety & preparedness

Helping you travel safely during the FIFA World Cup 2026™

We’re committed to keeping you safe during the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Whether it’s on a train, bus or at a station, we’ve been preparing for months to manage large crowds so you can move with confidence.

From increased GO train service on our busiest lines to a stronger security presence at Union Station and clear signage and staffing at Exhibition GO Station, we’re leaning into the challenge.

And we aren’t doing it alone. We’re working closely with partners like the TTC, Toronto Police and the City of Toronto to ensure a safe and seamless experience for fans, residents and commuters.

How Metrolinx is preparing

We’re getting ready across the transit system for more riders and busier travel times, including:

  • Increasing staff at key stations
  • New signage and wayfinding information
  • More fare payment devices to reduce lineups
  • Enhancing coordination with Toronto Police, TTC and City of Toronto
  • Preparing stations and facilities to manage larger crowds
  • Adding more GO train service on the Lakeshore lines

We’re constantly monitoring crowding at stations and on platforms and will adjust train times where we can to support safe travel. All of this work is to help keep service running safely and smoothly throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Toronto.

Safety reminder

Don’t forget, if you see something suspicious, report it to GO Transit Security Dispatch at 1-877-297-0642.   You can also text “HELP” to 77777 (not available to international carriers), to communicate in real-time with a GO Transit Security dispatcher.

Exhibition GO will be closed to non-customers on match days

To keep things moving smoothly, we're asking people:

  • Not to walk through Exhibition GO Station unless they're boarding a train.
  • To use the official marked pedestrian route on Strachan Ave instead of cutting through.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation, as we work to keep transit running safely and smoothly.
