Lakeshore East Line GO Expansion

Birchmount Road Bridge Reconstruction

Strengthening infrastructure to support an expanded GO network.

We’re reconstructing the Birchmount Road bridge as part of ongoing work to expand the Lakeshore East rail corridor and support increased capacity.

The existing structure will be demolished and rebuilt to accommodate an additional track beneath the bridge. This will help create space for a future fourth track within the rail corridor and prepare the Lakeshore East line for future service increases – all part of how we’re expanding GO.

Construction on the Birchmount Road bridge is currently underway. For more information on project phases, please check out our project lifecycle page.

Project overview

Reconstructing the Birchmount Road bridge will include:

  • Demolition and replacement of the existing road bridge
  • Retaining wall installation and piling beneath the bridge
  • Watermain and utility relocations
  • Track removals and renewals

Construction will take place in phases to help maintain traffic movement across the bridge. During construction there may be temporary detours and alternate routes for vehicles, pedestrians, and TTC customers. For the latest community updates, please view our notices page.
